Paris Cinema - Part 1 (22, 23 & 24 June 2003)
Because it's a film festival and because it's very very cheap (buy a sort of passport and then I can see every movie I want to see for 1,5€ only), Mirrel and I saw six movies within two days. Crazy hu'uh. Gue sampe eneg banget abis keluar dari film terakhir kemarin. Tapi bukan berarti nggak inget apa² soal filmnya. Setelah satu film habis, I took sometime to write a note of that film on my agenda. Yah, I acted like one of those Cannes Film Festival juries.
Many people tell me that I'd make a terrible film critic and I think I'd be a terrible critic... and here's why: I enjoy almost every film I see. When I find the film is bad, I'd go and try to enjoy the good side of that bad side. A "thinking positive" kind of attitude. Kasihan kan sama yang udah capek² buat film, hehe. Anyway, the lowdown on my 4-star system during these past two days :

2 Fast 2 Furious ** It was good. I'd see it again some time..

l'Evangile selon St Matt ** I enjoyed it but didn't love it. I always love bible-story movies, but the acting and the script of this film were terrible.

Le mystère de la Chambre Jaune *** It's a great film. It was strange and fun, but just a little scattered.

The Recruit*** The acting and the script were good. But there was something about the film I didn't enjoy. I don't know what..

Darkness* a pretty bad film, but it had something about it that still shone through.

Darkness Falls *** nice film.

I only give four stars to the very best. This goes beyond merely good acting or directing or scriptwriting..all of that can be perfect and the film will still get only three and half stars. No, to get four stars, the film has to pull me into its reality. It has to be so good that I am carried away with it. See, I'm acting like those Cannes Festival Film juries again...

My little brother woke up this morning and read a note I wrote to him. It said: "Mirell, clean the bathroom. Vaccum the appartment. Take trash out. Tell your friend to take his shoes out from the hallway." And when I came back from the library this noon, he said, "I have crapload of chores.. and all Sandya has to do is pick up his shoes?!"
